Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” Philippians 4:6

As young children rely on their earthly parents for everything so we must depend on God for all things. Similarly, as young children know freedom and security by relying on their earthly parents for all things, so we experience the same freedom and security for our lives as we rely on God our Heavenly Father.

The verse above teaches us that prayer is the antidote to anxiety and making our requests to God with thanksgiving will drive away our worries about tomorrow, whether they be about our need for food, clothing, shelter, health, friendship, acceptance, meaning or purpose in our lives. God graciously takes care of the birds and the lilies in the field, they have all that they need, how much more will he care for his own precious children.
(Matthew 6:25-33)

So prayer must be at the centre of church life. At Shields church presently, we meet to pray on 8 separate occasions detailed below through the week. As well as having that daily time of fellowship with Jesus on our own it’s great to pray together and encourage each other when we can. Each prayer meeting will incorporate singing, bible reading and on a Sunday evening we share in the Lord’s supper together too.
